Four days in the Greater Caucasus, built around the best trails in the Kazbegi region and the food, wine, and hospitality that make this corner of Georgia worth slowing down for.
Guests stay three nights at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi and trek into three of the area's finest valleys — Truso, Juta & Chaukhi, and the Mkinvartsveri alpine zone — with a flexible itinerary that lets the guide choose each day's route based on weather, conditions, and the group.
Between hikes, the trip opens out into Georgian culture: a private wine tasting at a family cellar in Saguramo, a khinkali masterclass with local hosts, and the option to swap a day on foot for a day on horseback. Everything handled, from airport pickup in Tbilisi to drop-off.
Over the trip, guests explore three of the four trekking areas below. The final choice is made day by day, based on weather, trail conditions, and group preferences.
Alpine trails above Stepantsminda toward the Gergeti glacier, reaching approximately 3,000 m with Mount Kazbegi (5,054 m) in front of you throughout. The route climbs through Tsminda Sameba and into the alpine zone.
Full day · up to 1,200 m elevation gain · Moderate to Challenging
One of the most singular landscapes in the Caucasus. The valley follows a historic trade route through wide, open terrain, past mineral springs, travertine formations, and the ruins of Ketrisi village and its medieval watchtowers.
Full day · 12–16 km · Moderate
Beneath the jagged spires of the Chaukhi Massif — the "Georgian Dolomites" — Juta is one of the most photogenic trekking areas in the country. Alpine meadows, glacial rivers, and high mountain trails toward Chaukhi Pass (3,338 m).
Full day · 12–18 km · Moderate to Challenging
A shorter half-day option to two waterfalls in the Dariali gorge, set among steep canyon walls and pine forest. A good choice as a lighter day or a relaxed final morning.
Half day · 4–6 km · Easy to Moderate
Saguramo sits on the route between Tbilisi and Kazbegi, which makes it a natural stop on either the arrival or departure day. The host family has preserved a private collection of archaeological artifacts dating back to the Bronze Age (3500–2500 BC) — a rare, generations-deep record of Georgia's mountain history, shown alongside their wine.
The visit includes:
Khinkali comes from the mountain regions of Georgia and remains one of the country's most iconic dishes. In this hands-on session, guests learn to fold and cook khinkali with local hosts in Kazbegi — and then sit down to eat what they've made.
Horse riding can replace one trekking day or run as an afternoon add-on. Routes and durations are matched to the group's experience and the day's weather. Riding areas include the Arsha valley, the Sno valley, and the lower slopes around Stepantsminda. Mountain-bred horses provided.
Day 1 — Arrival & transfer to Kazbegi
Airport pickup in Tbilisi and transfer to Kazbegi via the Georgian Military Highway — one of the most scenic drives in the country. Depending on arrival time, a stop in Saguramo for the wine experience and a full Georgian meal with the host family. Check-in at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi. Free evening.
Day 2 — First trekking day
Breakfast at the hotel. Full-day guided trek in one of the area's finest valleys — route chosen that morning. Picnic lunch on the trail. Return to Kazbegi in the late afternoon. Optional khinkali masterclass with local hosts in the evening.
Day 3 — Second trekking day
Breakfast at the hotel. Second full-day trek in an alternative valley — different terrain, different views, different character. Optional horse riding in the afternoon. Free evening at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi.
Day 4 — Final trek & departure
A shorter morning trek or a relaxed start, depending on flight times. Transfer back toward Tbilisi. Optional Saguramo wine stop on the way down if not done on arrival. Airport drop-off.
Few mountain regions in Europe or Asia combine alpine scenery, ancient history, and living mountain culture the way Kazbegi does. You can spend a morning walking ridgelines beneath a 5,054-metre peak, an afternoon eating khinkali at a family table, and an evening watching the light change on the Chaukhi Massif — all within the same valley.
The trails are quiet, the hospitality is generous, and the landscape rewards slow travel.
This itinerary is flexible by design. Routes and additional activities are chosen day by day based on weather, trail conditions, group fitness, and preferences — so we can give you the best possible day in the mountains every time.
