Kazbegi sits at the foot of Mount Kazbek (Mkinvartsveri, 5,054 m), one of the highest and most iconic peaks in the Caucasus. Centered on the town of Stepantsminda and framed by the Gergeti Trinity Church above the village, the region is one of Georgia's defining mountain landscapes — high-alpine ridgelines, glacier-fed valleys, steep couloirs, and remote backcountry.
The terrain rewards intermediate and expert ski tourers: flowing alpine lines, moderate couloirs, and high-altitude objectives, with the remoteness adding real weight to the days out. Beyond the skiing, Kazbegi keeps the texture of an old Caucasus crossroads — traditional mountain villages, local food, and a culture that doesn't bend to the tourist trail.
Our guided programs combine real skiing with what makes Kazbegi different: an optional night at altitude in the Deka Alpine Hut, the cultural backdrop, and a flexible schedule run by local guides who know the range. Service runs from guide-only through to all-inclusive. Prices depend on group size and dates.
A sample six-day program — every day is shaped by weather, snow conditions, group experience, and what people want out of the trip. Single days, three-day weekends, and other custom formats are also available.
Arrival at Tbilisi International Airport and transfer to Stepantsminda. Depending on arrival time, a short walk in the village or a visit to the Gergeti Trinity Church. Check-in at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi — a design boutique above Stepantsminda with direct Mount Kazbek views, a panoramic indoor pool, and sauna for post-touring recovery. Evening briefing and welcome dinner.
An easier first day to find rhythm and get a feel for the terrain. Rolling slopes and small alpine clearings, plenty of looks at the surrounding peaks and glaciers.
Elevation gain: approximately 600–900 m.
Skin up through valleys and snowfields to the Deka Alpine Hut at approximately 3,000 m. The day moves through tree line into open alpine terrain. Overnight at the hut — a different kind of evening, high above Stepantsminda.
From the hut, push higher — objectives around 4,000 m depending on snow and weather. Longer ascents, big descents, real high-altitude work. Return to Stepantsminda in the evening.
Elevation gain: 1,000 m or more.
Steeper lines and freeride terrain around Kazbegi. The guide picks the day's objective based on conditions — the right mix of technical skiing and big mountain.
Depending on flight time, a short morning ski or cultural walk in Stepantsminda, then transfer to Tbilisi International Airport.
Kazbegi is built for intermediate to expert skiers. There are approachable touring days, but the area's strongest objectives require real fitness, confident technique in variable snow, and comfort with long ascents and high-altitude work.
